My itunes won't reconise my apple devices?

hi i have a windows vista advent 9212 laptop and a 2nd gen ipod touch and a ipad 3g, and i want to get the 3g on my ipad activated but when ever i try and sync with itunes nothing happens it just dosen't sync and a window pops up saying digital still camera the parameter is incorrect i don't know what that means and i have gone to the genius bar and called tech support and no luck. PLEASE HELP!!!!
